The best way is to use it frequently. If you were in Spain or Mexico for 6 months you’d learn A LOT. I am in health care too and finished my residency in San Antonio, TX. I basically learned Spanish from my patients as there is a large Mexican population. Or you can try this book:
I bought it a while ago and you’ll learn how to say basic medical things: body parts, blood, equipment and some illnesses (ataque del cerebro o corazon). Otherwise pick up a basic Spanish book at Borders or something (I also did that) and it can really build up your vocab. Bottom line: Use it or lose it. Since I’ve moved back to Chicago, my Spanish is reduced to like a little kids and a while ago I was explaining colonoscopies to people in Spanish!

the fastest and most efficient way of learning it is to engulf yourself in a society that speaks spanish. you will learn more in 3 months of that than you will in two years of studying on your own or in school. Learning a language is more than knowing what others say, but its understanding it, knowing how to write it and speak it fluently and to read it. if you have time and the resources and are really serious about this then i would recommend you going to mexico for a while. i learned and understood spanish very well after just one year of living in bolivia. After coming home, with the broad spanish knowledge i had, i got introduced to the court system and studied legal terminology on my own. I am now a court interpreter. you dont need a degree in spanish to be benefited from it in the field you are in, just understanding the language is the major requirement for those benefits and employers will love you even more because of it. thats if you really want to know it. you can get by with some basic medical terminology and everyday street talk by studying on your own, or by buying a cd program or something like that. depends how far you want to go.

The best way I know of to learn Spanish fast is to start with Interlingua. It worked for me! You can learn Interlingua in a very short time. Castellina discovered that people learned it so well in six days that they could write texts in Interlingua. The average is actually 15 days for speakers of English and other Germanic languages, but that’s still very fast.
After you learn Interlingua, you can learn many other languages quickly. This has been documented most thoroughly with languages like Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and French, which you can learn about twice as fast as usual. So, you save a lot of time and effort in the long run. When I learned Interlingua, my Spanish vocabulary came pouring into my head!
Basically, you’ll be learning your third language instead of your second. It’s the second language that’s so tough to learn, and Interlingua helps you to dispense with it quickly and easily. Interlingua also helps you to understand your own language better.

same as Nicollle A. said. if you hang around or live with someone that speaks a diferrent language, it will eventually stick.

Try, it’s a podcast that aims at teaching the Spanish language. They have lessons every day, from all over the Spanish speaking world. I’ve been learning for a few months and I’ve found them really useful.
Good luck!
